Prescription Reception and Pharmacist-Referral Flow
Unit 4 · Use this guide for simulations and adapt it to the pharmacy’s authorised procedure
Workflow
| Step | Sales-assistant action | Control |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Receive | Accept the prescription carefully and protect confidentiality. | Do not interpret, alter or diagnose. |
| 2. Identify | Confirm the customer and the immediate service request using approved questions. | Do not request unnecessary health data. |
| 3. Refer | Present the prescription to the pharmacist or authorised person. | Urgent or unclear requests are prioritised according to procedure. |
| 4. Select | After authorisation, select the exact product using name, strength, form, quantity and pack details. | Check integrity and expiry. |
| 5. Verify | Complete the second check required by the pharmacy. | Any discrepancy returns to the pharmacist. |
| 6. Handover | Handover only after pharmacist approval and give authorised service information. | Clinical counselling remains the pharmacist’s responsibility. |
Stop and refer: illegible or altered prescription; uncertain product; dose or substitution question; suspected adverse effect; urgent symptoms; unusual request; regulatory uncertainty.
